Glamping with pets...

With the festive season upon us here at BrackenXcapes, we are busy preparing the site for guests staying with us over Christmas!

We've had a busy autumn with visitors from across the country and as far away as Spain & Istanbul coming to spend time in the area for weddings, friend meet ups and events at the Newark Showground.

There is always lots going on locally which is why we like Newark and the surrounding areas so much. The district and Town Councils do have a lot of focus on bringing people to the area by hosting a wide variety of events. You can see what's planned over the coming months by visiting the visitnewark website they manage and exploring the 'events' section.

Cats at BrackenXcapes

We've also had some firsts here on site with new guests Irene & Matthew coming to stay and bringing with them their pet cats! Kafka and Lua enjoyed their stay, we are told, exploring the 9 acre field as well as their cosy glamping pod the Queen Bee!

We know it's a growing trend, holidaying with your cats alongside the more traditional arrival of dogs with many of those who stay with us, so here are some handy tips to think about:

  • Before you set off, make sure your accommodation is cat-friendly. Let them know you’re bringing your pet along so things are ready for your cat’s arrival.

  • Unless your cat is already familiar with the outdoors where you are going, they will need to be kept inside during your stay. Check that your accommodation is nice and secure.

  • Check ahead about appropriate toilet facilities for your cat, and whether there is a secure outdoor space for them to be in – they need to be as comfortable as possible. Don’t forget a cat lead if you want to wander around and aren’t confident the cat will come back to you if called!

  • If you are staying in someone’s home or in a small B&B, before travelling with your cat ask about the presence of other animals. Will your cat be alright with other pets around?

  • Ensure your cat has everything they need for the first few days of the trip, until you find local supply sources such as food, water, treats, litter boxes and a good supply of litter.

  • If possible, take familiar items from home to help your cat settle in well, such as scratching posts, toys and comfy bedding. Like most humans, cats love their home comforts!

We are sure Kafka and Lua and a purrrfeect time here at BrackenXcapes and look forward to hopefully seeing them again in the future. Like them, you can book a glamping pod, a tiny house a bell tent (in the summer months) or The Fern, our sleeps 5 holiday cottage, by simply visiting the 'Book a Stay with us' section of our website.
