Sherwood Forest Glamping Activities
From BrackenXcapes, it's just a 25-minute drive to the small village of Edwinstowe, which serves as the gateway to Sherwood Forest's ancient woodland. Here, there are multiple walking loops ranging from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours, but if you're pressed for time, you can follow a shorter, more direct trail to the unmissable Major Oak. This oak tree is between 1,000 and 1,200 years old and its canopy spreads 28 metres wide; it's said to have been used by the legendary outlaw, Robin Hood, and his band of Merry Men as a shelter. You can find a trail map here, or stop in at the Visitor Centre and chat to the friendly staff and pick up a souvenir.

If you're looking for more action though, head south of Edwinstowe to Sherwood Pines, where you'll find plenty of fun activities for kids of all ages. Bring or hire bikes and take to the nearly 20 miles of cycling trails, as well as a bike park complete with exciting dirt jumps. For a natural high, try out Go Ape's range of treetop obstacle courses, and if you're visiting with young children, there's even a Gruffalo and a Stick Man Trail.

Both Sherwood Forest and Sherwood Pines welcome dogs and are perfect for long walks. There's even a Wallace and Gromit 'Forest Walkies' trail with challenges and games for your hound to complete along the way. If you're looking for Sherwood Forest dog-friendly accommodation, then you're in luck at BrackenXcapes too. Our cottage, pods and bell tents all allow dogs and enjoy access to an enclosed nine-acre field perfect for on-site dog walks. Other dog-friendly locations nearby include National Trust site Clumber Park.
